Wesley gets Foggy, Norman and Compo to help him move a Piano for Auntie Wainwright almost running into Billy Ingleton, who takes a shine to the instrument. Foggy wants credit as the concert promoter for Billy. Howard and Marina wear, what they think are, disguises. Eli conducts The Holme Band at the concert. Compo saves the show.

Howard has indigestion. He has been eating the scented note paper on which Marina sends messages. Foggy is waxing nostalgic about the army upon seeing a pipe repair hole beside the road. Edie is terrorising the community with her erratic driving.

Foggy, Norman and Compo meet a Mr. Broadbent who aims to become closer to the wilderness. He gives the trio his van, but fails to inform them of the surprise in the back. Howard and Marina try racing bikes.

Pearl catches Howard behaving oddly in the cellar. He lies claiming that he is looking for "stone-worm", leaving the ladies to wonder if the village is infested. Foggy sets Compo on a mouse catching mission in a haberdasher's shop.

Howard tries jogging. Someone on a motorcycle is looking for Compo. Auntie Wainwright reveals yet another facet of her business empire.

Foggy, Norman and Compo meet a man who is trying to prepare himself for space travel. Foggy insists on overseeing a space training program using Compo as a test subject. Howard and Marina purchase backpacks and camping equipment from Auntie Wainwright.

Howard is attempting to hypnotize people by staring at them. Foggy becomes as obsessed as Howard with the idea of having hypnotic power over people.

Howard begs Norman to take a note to Marina. Norman offers one of his late wife's hats to Compo for Nora Batty if he will take Howard's note to Marina. Foggy wants a coat-of-arms and is spurred by a letter from a distant relative to look for an ancestral link to a prominent family.

Compo becomes entangled in bed springs that he was trying to use as a trampoline and ends up falling into a sewer.
