The life of police officer Maxim Maksimov suddenly begins to crumble: his wife leaves him, then he loses his job and tries to find solace in a bottle. One day Maksimov receives a strange message from his former father-in-law and mentor Zharov. The message contains only one word: "Rose". When Maksimov comes to Zharov's home, he finds the owner dead and his dog wounded. Maxim takes the dog to his place, nurses it and calls the pet simply Dog. The criminals are following Maksimov and are clearly hinting not to get involved in this case. But the former cop is not afraid of threats and starts his own investigation. Maksimov goes to the criminal Laponogov, who was once imprisoned by Zharov, and the "authority" came out two days ago. But it turns out that the criminal has an alibi.

Maksimov discovers the corpse of the lawyer in his house, along with the instrument of the crime. He hides the body and has time before the police arrive, a search in the apartment does not lead to anything, but he is still arrested. Now Maksimov is a murder suspect.

Elena and Max met by coincidence at Zharov's grave after nine days. Unexpectedly, Gnezdilov arrived, and Maksimov had to flee. Elena did not have time to tell her ex-husband what the word "Rose" means. Gromov ordered to take Maksimov dead or alive within 24 hours.

Maksimov, not without the participation of the Dog, saves the prostitute Anya from the bandits, who helps new acquaintances to solve the case of a robbery of a jewelry store. As a result, a chance meeting with Max and his faithful friend becomes a turning point in the girl's life.

An unknown person beats Maksimov on the head with knuckle dusters, as a result of which the cop partially loses his memory. The investigation is being carried out by Gnezdilov, who uncovers evidence against Maksimov, indicating his involvement in the murder of Nina Shvetsova. But where is her body? During the interrogation of Maksimov, the "deceased" Nina calls. In her apartment, the detectives find the corpse of a woman. So who killed whom and for what?

During the filming of the film, the make-up artist Masha falls out of the window and dies. In her room, detectives find white powder and champagne. Gnezdilov adheres to the version that there was a suicide due to alcohol and drug intoxication. Maksimov believes that the girl was killed. Tests show that the white powder is drugs, and the woman who died before falling from the window was strangled.

In his car, a judge was shot in the temple. Maksimov finds a video recorder, kidnapped by teenagers from the car of the deceased, and finds out that the killer is Igor Denisov, nicknamed Dan. But it is not possible to stop him: in front of Maksimov's eyes, Dan dies from a shot by a motorcyclist who quickly drove past him. And soon Dan's girlfriend dies.

A janitor becomes the prime suspect in the murder of a tenant when a bottle of expensive whiskey from the deceased's bar is found. Maksimov does not believe in the version of the detectives, realizing that he is just an alcoholic and a thief. He returns to the scene of the crime and with the help of the Dog finds the murder weapon, thanks to which he can initiate a new investigation.

During the arrest, the offender opens fire on the police from an old-style machine gun. Leonidov manages to establish: the weapon was stolen from the storage of material evidence. It turns out that Gnezdilov, who was supposed to take the museum exhibit to the warehouse, drove into a brothel "for a minute" on the way.

A large drug dealer was shot by a sniper in the courtyard of his house during a meeting with an amphetamine supplier, a chemical technologist, Pukhov. But as soon as Maksimov and Leonidov go out to the clandestine laboratory, the killer removes three laboratory assistants and sets fire to it. The last important witness remains - the technologist Turkin, who worked for Pukhov.

Raiders in an ambulance rob a jewelry store and kill a police officer. But as soon as the valuables are in the car, one of the hijackers leaves, leaving behind his accomplices. At the same hours in the park, a doctor is killed from a lethal dose of a drug. In his apartment Maksimov finds jewelry with price tags.

Maksimov and detectives watch for a car with a batch of heroin. The car can be stopped, but at the wheel - a hijacker, and besides, a minor. The boy during interrogation says that he just wanted to go for a drive, allegedly did not know anything about heroin, he has no parents, and he spends the night at the station. The boy is taken to his place by Kurochkin, and right at the entrance to the police station he is deliberately hit by a car.

After a long absence, Koschey, the legendary killer of the era of bandit wars, returns to the city. Soon the local criminals environment is shaken by a series of daring murders. Max tries to understand the killer's motives in order to calculate the next victim. Operatives learn that Koschey is terminally ill and is living out his last months.

A lawyer was shot in the yard of his own house. The killer tried not to inherit, and the only thread that would allow to unravel the tangle of the crime is the numbers "3913" written by the criminal on the victim's forehead.

Prisoner of Spirits escapes from prison. In doing so, he kills his cellmate and attacks the guard. In this whole story, the police are alarmed by one strange fact: before the end of the term and release to freedom, Duhov had only a few days to wait.

A mysterious maniac has been terrorizing representatives of show business for more than a year. The famous model Angelica became another victim of his attacks. Max and the Dog will have to try themselves in the unusual role of the star's bodyguards.

At an intersection, a car runs over a man with a large bag running at a red light. There is a large amount of money. The victim is unconscious and the police cannot interrogate him. Although it is worth interrogating - the bills in the bag turn out to be fake.

Another murder has been committed in the city. Leonidov calls Max, but he does not answer. Worried Elena and Leonidov come to their friend's house and find an empty apartment and a hungry Dog. Gnezdilov claims that Max is drinking, but Elena does not believe in this version.

The corpse of a man with a mutilated face who fell out of the window was found. During the survey, it turned out that this was not Maksimov, but the wanted Nifontov, nicknamed Psycho. All the evidence against him - and prints on knives, and photographs with threatening inscriptions, and a suicide note with the content: "I took revenge on everyone, goodbye." It would seem that the case can be closed, but the examination showed that he was beaten long before the fall. What happened to the Psycho and where did Maksimov go?
