John Thompson is determined that Placerville and other mining camps get mail during the snowy winters. John develops skis and heroically gets news through but his lack of pay postpones his marriage to Agnes.

Phelps, a railroad executive, needs Andy Prentice's help with Chief Black Hawk in getting permission for the train to go through Indian territory. His daughter Evelyn causes trouble for Andy and he must fight the brave warrior.

Cowpoke Curt Morrison and pal Josh locate a spring on Indian land soon to be opened to homesteaders. Disqualified themselves they tell Bonnie but a land speculator beats her to it illegally. Curt makes sure it works out for the Kentucky lass.

Susie is blind and bitter because of her blindness. Steve meets her and helps her to find a purpose in life via a job. Susie witnesses a stage robbery and her heightened senses play a key role in solving the crime.

Lucretia Phinney and her children endure years of poverty and humiliation because her husband Herb prefers daydreaming and prospecting to steady work. Eventually, she devises an ironic solution to their situation.
