Santa Barbara, California. Two families are at the center of the intrigue, love, hate, passion and murder around the California Clan.

Joe is welcomed home by his mother, Marissa, and his sister, Jade. Joe's father, John Perkins, moves out in disgust. Santana Andrade reveals to her mother, Rosa, that she had Channing's child five years ago, but the baby boy was given away.

Peter is taking Kelly home by boat when she spots her first and true love Joe who's just been released from prison.

On the Capwell yacht with Peter, Kelly catches Joe spying on them from afar. A henchman plants a bomb in the Perkins home, but Marissa is not seriously injured. A mysterious stranger invites Joe for a meeting in an abandoned warehouse.

The mysterious stranger, Dominic, encourages Joe to search Channing's room. Dr. Toni Carlin treats Peter's injuries. Santana blackmails Dr. Ramirez into admitting that C.C. personally took her baby away and gave the boy to an unknown woman.

Kelly starts to burn Joe's letters, but saves one. Dominic gets Joe the blueprints to the Capwell mansion. Santana confronts C.C. about her child, and C.C. admits that he is still in contact with the boy's adopted family.

After one of his oil rigs catches on fire, C.C. sends for Cruz Castillo. Santana hires an investigator, unaware that he is working for C.C. Joe breaks into the Capwell mansion, but an alarm goes off when he tries to enter Channing's room.

The Capwell family is stunned when the alarm goes on in their house, while Joe is trying to escape from the house.

Cruz arrives safe and sound on C.C.'s doorstep. Cruz collapses and is taken to the hospital. Santana finds out her investigator is working for C.C. Both Kelly and Joe receive telegrams inviting them to meet at the same place the next day.

Kelly and Joe meet face to face in the middle of a stable. Joe tells her that he is unaware who organized their meeting. Joe pays Augusta a late visit to announces that he has finally accepted the offer to work for her.

Kelly and Joe meet again in Cruz's hospital room. C.C. invites Cruz to recover at the Capwell mansion. Joe begins his first day working at the Lockridge mansion, where Augusta tries to seduce him.

Augusta asks Peter for money to get rid of Joe. Joe and Augusta kiss. Once again, Joe breaks into the Capwell mansion while the Capwells are at a yacht party. Augusta makes an anonymous call to C.C. to report someone breaking into his home.

Joe breaks into Channing's room. The police arrive while Joe is in the mansion, so he hides in his friend Cruz's room. Cruz offers his car to help Joe get away from the mansion. Before he can make his escape, Joe bumps into Kelly.

Joe Perkins is caught in the Capwell house and Cruz helps him hide in the trunk of a car. Lakeland Lockridge is set to audition for Central Hollywood Studios .

Joe chases Dominic back to his apartment, but loses track of him inside the building. Santana and Cruz look at a houseboat. While horseback riding, Kelly watches Joe and Augusta from afar. She gets her shirt caught in some barbed wire.

Joe helps Kelly out of the barbed wire and the two kiss for the first time. Mason decides to file charges against Joe for harassing Kelly. Cruz and Joe go out drinking, and Joe later shows up at the Lockridge mansion to be with Augusta.

Joe and Augusta are awakened in bed by a call from Dominic. Peter breaks off his deal with Augusta. Santana plans to seduce C.C. to find out more about her son. Joe and Dominic meet, but they are interrupted by a third party.

Joe meets with Dominic again, and they study Channing's diary and a love letter to Santana. Santana makes plans with Cruz to help redecorate his new houseboat. Joe brings Santana the love letter from Channing.

Cruz arranges for Joe to meet with Santana in the stable. Kelly and Peter set the date for their wedding for November. Peter tells C.C. that Augusta has been seeing Joe. A furious C.C. meets with Augusta and demands that she let Joe go.

Warren tells his father that Joe works for them, but Lionel seems unmoved. On board a helicopter, C.C. manages to locate Santana. After suffering a snake bite, Santana is taken to the hospital. A grateful Santana kisses C.C.

Joe cross-examines Santana in the hospital. Mason forces Peter to find where Augusta hides papers concerning her properties. Augusta cooks Laken's carrier pigeon. Joe arranges a meeting with Dominic, only to hide in Dominic's car trunk.

Dominic drives to a graveyard. Joe sees Dominic stand before Channing's grave. Joe remembers Dominic is the witness who could prove his innocence. After the incident with the pigeon, Laken decides to stay with Kelly.

Lionel and Augusta try to persuade Laken to return home from the Capwell residence. Ted arrives to take Laken away from their quarreling parents. Mason hatches a plan to search the Lockridge residence for the deed he is looking for.

In hospital, Santana questions her mother about Sophia (C.C.'s late wife) to get closer to C.C. Kelly begins to doubt the guilt of Joe in Channing's murder. Joe tries to keep Dominic until Mason arrives, but is hit on the head from behind.

Mason finds Joe hit over the head, but Dominic has run away. Kelly finds Joe at La Mesa and announces to him that she does not want to see him anymore. Mason goes to the Lockridge residence with a warrant to search the house.

Peter asks one of the employees of the hotel to install a two-way mirror in the presidential suite. Lionel guesses that Augusta and Joe were lovers. Peter tells Augusta about Mason's plans concerning the Lockridge property.
