Rab is forced into the humiliating position of becoming a human burger to advertise a local fast food joint - or risk losing his benefits. Mary,meanwhile, enjoys the high life, thanks to the thieving activities of Gash and his cousin Screech, but feels guilty when she observes Rab's hard work. Rab, though, is also tempted to be dishonest.

Feeling neglected because Rab is spending so much time at his newly acquired allotment, Mary takes up with old flame 'Mental' Frankie Brammer, who has done very well for himself, and who offers Rab a job. However he is a villain and the 'job' is robbing a garden centre. Should Rab take the money or do the right thing to win back his Mary?

On a visit to the doctor Rab is diagnosed with a cancerous growth in his stomach and has to go to the oncology department for chemotherapy. He loses his hair but because the wig shop is very expensive he buys a joke Beatle wig instead. However, whilst visiting the weird family of Gash's betrothed, Natalie, he collapses and has to be admitted to hospital.

Things look bleak for Rab on the cancer ward. The doctor is totally pessimistic and the persistent attention of the chaplain gets on his nerves. Back in Govan his 'mates' are already planning his funeral. However, when Rab sings 'I Will Survive' he means it and, due to a misdiagnosis, he is eventually back in the pub,watching all hell break loose as Gash and Jamesie start a fight. As he tells Mary, "Nothing's changed."

The Nesbitts and Cotters travel to Amsterdam, supposedly to visit the tulip fields, but Rab soon realises that Jamesie is out to explore the red light area. Having accidentally got stoned Rab is amazed to find Mary plying her trade in the Street of Shame, though a bigger surprise awaits him at Customs going home.

Rab and Jamesie take a reluctant Gash on his stag night, winding up at a strange house after the ever-rampant Jamesie accidentally pulls a transvestite. Gash is admitted to hospital with alcohol poisoning and Rab and Jamesie are arrested for stealing a chimp but the wedding just about goes ahead.
