Present: Rene represents a developmentally disabled man who doesn't want a vasectomy; Past: M.E. and Rene sneak off to a rock concert and find themselves in danger after the police are involved.

Present: Rene is sued by a former client and his wife for malpractice; Past: M.E. makes a decision to convert to Catholicism which upsets her mother.

Present: Rene and Bill disagree on how much money they should spend on a house; M.E. pulls a bold stunt to get the attention of her boss; Past: M.E. fights with a new girl who has a crush on Colliar.

Present: Rene and Bill discover that they have different styles of parenting; M.E. gets in trouble for lying for a colleague; Past: M.E. helps Rene sell candy in white neighborhoods and discover that Colliar is being abused by his alcoholic father.

Present: Davis joins the football team; Rene represents a client who confesses to a 34-year-old murder; Past: Rene and M.E. learn that they share ownership of Port Dixie with a homeless woman claiming to be a Hungarian princess.

Present: M.E. and Sara suspect that Rene is avoiding making wedding plans with Bill; Past: a white civil rights activist stays at Rene's house.

Present: Rene defends a young man charged with hitting a pregnant woman with his car who ends up losing her child; Past: When a popular friend of M.E.'s sister befriends M.E., she tells her that she cannot be friends with Rene anymore.

Present: While on route to a family reunion, Sara collapses and is sent to the hospital; Past: Rene and M.E. accidentally cause a fire using firecrackers which make the townspeople believe the incident was racially motivated.

In the present: M.E. mistakes a black woman for a waitress at a restaurant, throwing a wrench into her friendship with Rene who thinks she's racist. Odessa's leaving so Rene has to hire a new assistant. M.E. decides to write an article on racism, and speaks to her uncle Jimmy who runs a racist website. In the past: Jimmy catches Rene and M.E. hanging out and confronts M.E.'s parents about it. Rene wants to move back to Detroit and tells M.E they can't be friends anymore.

In the present, M.E. confronts her uncle Jimmy after a cross burns on their lawn. Davis informs M.E. that Jimmy's website has a hit list with Rene's name on it. Rene takes Jimmy to court and calls M.E. to the witness stand. In the past: M.E. and Colliar bring Rene a hamster to cheer her up, but it gets loose in the house. Jimmy and his partner pull Sarah over and threaten her and Rene's lives.

Present: M.E. and Colliar face financial issues after a client of Colliar's goes bankrupt; Past: M.E. and Rene learn that a seamstress was a Holocaust survivor.

Present: When M.E. visits the grave of her deceased son, Bobby, she learns that the cemetary made a mistake and digs up his grave; Past: Teresa loses her virginity and M.E. has her first kiss with Colliar.

Present: Rene throws a housewarming party to cope with the loneliness of her breakup with Bill; Past: Rene becomes silent after witnessing a man being assaulted by two white boys.

Rene represents a singer who is sent to her by Joe Lozano. Unfortunately, this attractive crooner who sings so well is not given credit for his performance

Present: M.E. disagrees with Colliar taking Davis on a hunting trip to teach him about guns; Rene represents a teacher who is fired from her job for being a Wiccan; Past: Rene wants to change her look before junior high begins and M.E. gets her first bra.

Present: Renee learns some unpleasant truths about herself and her relationships after an old college friend comes to visit; Past: Rene feels abandoned when M.E. spends time with her family's new maid.

Present: After suffering from a serious allergic reaction which hospitalizes her, M.E. decides to change her will; Past: Rene and M.E. discover something shocking after opening a secret box.

Present: Rene becomes a guardian ad litem for a teenager whose mother is being investigated for abuse after allowing her daughter to undergo various cosmetic procedures; M.E. and Colliar confront Kelly after discovering a condom in her boyfriend's pocket; Past: M.E. and Rene give Tully's cousin Agnes a makeover to help her fit in.

Present: Rene helps Lakeisha out after she is brought up before the Bar Association for misrepresenting herself as an attorney; Past: M.E. and Rene become lookouts for a poker game.

Present: Rene represents Bill after he is involved in a controversial shooting; Past: M.E. suspects Colliar is cheating on her with Rene.

Present: M.E. and Colliar discover that their neighbor is a convicted pedophile; Past: Rene accidentally hits Johnny's baseball into into the yard of a mysterious neighbor that M.E. is suspects of being a murderer.

Present: M.E. convinces Rene to attend their high school reunion; Past: Rene is anxious about attending a predominately white high school while M.E. goes on a hunger strike in order to convince her father to allow her to attend South Birmingham High School.
