George and Marion Kerby are celebrating their fifth wedding anniversary by going on a ski trip. On the trip, one of Marion's skis break. They then encounter an inebriated St. Bernard that Marion names Neil. Suddenly, all three are killed in an avalanche. Three months later, Cosmo Topper buys their home and discovers that the three are haunting the house. Since Topper discovered their spirits, he is the only one who can see or hear them.

The Toppers move into their new home with a little help from George and Marion.

The Toppers old maid had quit and Henrietta places an ad for a new one. George leaves a note for an out of work Burlesque dancer to apply for the position with disastrous results.

An old school chum proves irksome and gets treatment.

George becomes jealous after his wife, Marian, develops a crush on Topper's new personal trainer.

Henrietta's friend Thelma Gibney, a spinster, is dating an insurance salesman, who is more interested in selling insurance to her and the Toppers than he is in her.

Trouble begins when Topper loses valuable securities.

The Kerbys use their ghostly wiles on an obnoxious child that Topper wants to "adopt".

George is determined to catch a neighborhood thief known as The Phantom Burglar.

A suspicious looking uncle comes to the Toppers in search of the Kerbys. The uncle, unaware that the Kerbys are now ghosts, claims he made a fortune in India and wants to give them some money.

The Kerbys want Cosmo to get a sports car for Henrietta's birthday.

Henrietta reads a Christmas Carol to Topper and their guests. Topper falls asleep during the reading and dreams he is Scrooge.

To celebrate the new year Mrs Henrietta Topper, the wife of Cosmo Topper wishes to visit friends to celebrate the coming of a new year. The only problem is that the party is a masquerade ball and Topper refuses to go. Henrietta heads to the party alone as Cosmo promises he will head along later as their is a problem with his costume. This of course is a ploy to not attend, however the Kerbys have other ideas and in their usual way get Cosmo to change his mind. However Cosmo and the Kerbys get the address where the party is totally wrong, and soon Cosmo is arrested for...

Cosmo and Henrietta celebrate their 25th wedding anniversary by spending the night at their honeymoon hotel. Trouble is, it now seems to be haunted, and not by George and Marion.

Cosmo is unhappy about having to accommodate a pair of boring guests, so the ghosts drive them away by interfering with the proceeding card game.

Henrietta's friend Thelma has been seeing one Dr. Lang socially. To bring the two closer together, Henrietta arranges for herself and Cosmo to receive medical checkups from Dr. Lang. Later, Henrietta invites the new couple over. It's Marion's birthday, though, so at the same time, the Kerbys have invited some of their old friends, who are strangers to the Toppers.

When the ghosts rearrange a window display and the result draws a crowd, the store owner credits Henrietta with having done it; but he is only flattering her in order to sell her some furniture.

After seeing an astrologist, Katie is convinced the astrological charts indicate that Cosmo will be ruined financially, if he goes to work the next day.

Topper goes on an ordinary business trip, but because of the language used, the ghosts misinterpret it as some sort of high-level espionage mission.

Angry with George because he hasn't noticed her new hat, Marion Kerby suddenly declares that they are no longer married.

Cosmo wants to economize on home expenses. Henrietta and the Kerbys agree. However, their attempts at home repairs are disastrous, and lead to Topper's spending more money than ever.

Cosmo decides to run for mayor, but then finds out that his boss is the campaign manager for his opponent.

Henrietta and Marion take up painting as a hobby, but after Cosmo and George get a look at their "artworks", they try to come up with a way to discourage their wives from pursuing it any further.

Henrietta decides to sell the house. This does not sit well with ghosts Marion and George.

George and Marian's grandfather Augustus Kerby dies, leaving them a million dollars. However, since they're already dead, that could pose some legal problems.

Topper is sent to Las Vegas on bank business; George and Marion insist on coming along and helping him win. This gets him in hot water with the management.

After the Kerbys befuddle Van Horn, an efficency expert, Topper's boss sends him to New Mexico to check on a ranch. Cosmo, with the Kerby's help, becomes a sharpshooter and puts a villainous cowboy in his place.

The Kerbys play a joke on Cosmo by making him believe he's won $800,000 playing the Irish Sweepstakes.

When a package for the Kerbys arrives at the Toppers' house, Henrietta sends it back to the post office's Dead Letters Office. George and Marian, wanting to know what the package is, enlist Cosmo's help in getting it back.

Henrietta's know-it-all, sportsman cousin comes to visit. The Kerby's talk Topper into suggesting a camping trip during which they assist Topper in making cousin Willie look foolish.

Marion makes overtures about being Topper's secretary. He rings for Miss Erskins, his real one, but every time she enters, Topper is telling the invisible Marion to go away. Miss Erskins and the bank president hear his comments to Marion about getting off his lap. Mrs. Bates comes to see him. It is Ellen, his twice-divorced goddaughter asking for his help in talking Aunt Emma into letting her marry the movie star Larry Hartford. Aunt Emma enters as Ellen is leaving and asks Topper for help in keeping Ellen from making another marriage mistake. A Saturday night dinner ...
