The body of a young girl is found in a basement, chief inspector Valeria Ferro takes the investigation. Meanwhile her mother is going to get released from the jail.

The investigation continues, various red herrings appear. A couple of men appear to be involved. An affair is uncovered.

A wealthy upper class family have a murder in their midst. Another member of the family is injured. There are 2 sons and a daughter of the wealthy couple. At the will reading, there is a major surprise. Valeria's mother is released from jail after 17 years but Valeria does not forgive her, but her brother does, and he and his wife take the Mother in to live with them.

Mantovani family secrets start to unravel during the murder investigation. Valeria goes to live with Giorgio Lombardi, her boss and boyfriend. Another death occurs. Things do not appear as they seem.

A pregnant woman is missing. Her husband, the prime suspect is distraught. While tattoo parlor employees care for his daughter, the man continues to see other woman. Can Valeria find the missing woman.

After an intense confrontation with Valeria, Lucia realises that her family will never be able to forgive her so maybe it would be best for her to leave.

A young woman is washed up in the mud of a river, and another is found unconscious nearby. Valeria feels guilty as her brother cannot forgive her for asking their mother to move out. Questions are asked at a convent about the murder.

A novice nun goes clubbing, and knows more about the death by the river. Valeria's mother is missing.

A young woman is found dying in the hammam where she works after having been attacked with a knife. Valeria speaks with the father, the victim Amina and the brother Assam. The islam community are involved somehow.

Peace seems to have been restored in the Ferro household, but a visitor upsets the harmony. Just as the case of Amina's stabbing is closed, there is more trouble with that family. Mouro receives bad news about his health.

Arianna Lancise finds her 4-year-old daughter dead in the car where she had just left her.

Valeria attempts to prove Arianna's innocence; Monica confesses that Lucia has always been innocent, and was not the one who killed her husband and Valeria's father, Mario.
