1956. Bel Rowley and Freddie Lyon, BBC reporters and best friends, apply to join a new current affairs program. Meanwhile, Freddie is asked to investigate a murder.

With "The Hour" struggling, Bel knows they need to pull off an interview with an Egyptian diplomat. Is Hector up to the challenge? And Freddie believes he may have found a clue to the mystery he is investigating.

A weekend party at Hector's in-laws gives Freddie the chance to question Ruth's fiancé. Hector and Bel struggle with their attraction towards each other. Meanwhile, Isaac continues the investigation back at the office.

Freddie disappears from the office just as two huge news stories are breaking. The newly confident Hector takes command. Bel and Hector's affair heats up.

McCain pressures "The Hour" to toe the line concerning the Suez Crisis, but Freddie has other ideas. And Lix helps Freddie with an important lead.

The team prepare to air a controversial episode on the Suez Crisis. Hector and Bel must make a decision about their relationship. Finally, Freddie learns the truth about what happened to Ruth.
