An Old Man, bent double with age and toil, was gathering sticks in a forest. At last he grew so tired and hopeless that he threw down the bundle of sticks, and cried out: "I cannot bear this life any longer. Death come and take me!"

The theme of this story is "Greed can land you in a sticky situation." In the story, the flies' greed for the honey makes them unaware of their surroundings. As a result, they become trapped by the honey and suffocate to death.

The one story in this collection of Half-Minute Horrors which I found to be THE most terrifying by far, is "A Walk Too Far," by Gloria Whelan.

A fruitful Walnut Tree by a road was attacked by passers-by to get the nuts. The Tree lamented his position.

When justice reigns in the state and all the judgements are fair, the meek may also live in tranquility.

One must be lenient and not allow oneself to be carried away uncontrollably, for it often happens that people easily angered cause even greater harm to themselves than to those they wish to injure and therefore increase the problems they had already.

This fable shows that you shouldn't become habituated to a loose way of life, for there comes a time when habit forces itself upon you, whether you like it or not.

This fable shows that perversity of nature does not change under the influence of kindness.
