Therese used to be close to her brother Roger, but now he rarely visits anymore. Therese is convinced it's because her bossy sister in-law Michelle is trying to steal Roger away from her! Michelle admits she doesn't like visiting Therese's home, but only because it's tiny, cluttered and infested with cats. The claws are out between these suspicious sisters in-law and Ellie needs to stop their cat-fights before Roger loses his sister for good.

From the moment Angela married Fred, she hasn't been able to do anything right according to her traditional Italian father-in-law Rafaelle. From cooking, to raising a baby, his old-world ways are simply better than her modern approach to life and motherhood. Angela is fed up with Rafaelle's overbearing ways and is afraid his traditional behavior is rubbing off on her husband Fred. In this episode, Ellie helps bridge the cultural divide and bring this family into the modern age.

Daughter-In-law Julia is gaga over her in-laws. She loves Barbara and Elliot's company and invites them over all the time, whether it's to hang out and watch movies together, get their advice on family finances or even plan family vacations. Husband Jeff wants Julia to stop dragging his parents into his marriage. He's feeling like Julia and his parents are too close, and his voice doesn't count. Ellie needs to help this couple become a united front before Jeff is pushed out of the family picture for good.

Mother-in-law Marion expects her daughter Stacey, son in-law Rob and their two young children to join in every family event she has planned, including Friday night dinners and weekends at the family cottage. Rob is desperate for some alone time and he's becoming more miserable with each endless family get-together. He may be present in body, but certainly not in spirit. Newlywed Jon is having a lot of trouble cutting the apron strings from his mom. Mother Denise, and her entire family, are obsessed with video games. His wife Alicia feels so ignored and abandoned that she's made Jon stop playing video games permanently - which mother in-law Denise finds unacceptable! Now these in-laws are going head to head in a 'battle to the death' for control of Jon. Ellie steps in to help these in-laws to put down their cyber-swords and compromise.

Sisters-in-law and former friends Gale and Lorie have been estranged for a long time, ever since Gale adopted two pit bulls. The dogs are Lorie's biggest phobia. She hasn't visited her brother Dave and his family for years, to avoid having to come anywhere near the pit bulls. Gale thinks her sister-in-law's "phobia" is just a childish call for attention. Ellie needs to get these in-laws out of the doghouse and on the road to reconciliation.

Carl needed help buying his dream house so he asked wife Heather's parents May and Chick to help with the mortgage payments. Big mistake - along with their support, they also moved in! Now he's being driven crazy by his eccentric Scottish in-laws, who nosily barge in at all hours, mess up his kitchen and generally throw Carl off his groove. Obsessive germ-o-phobic Derek's world has been contaminated by Marlene, his well intentioned but messy mother-in-law. She comes over daily to help clean and take care of his two young children, leaving a huge mess in her wake. At the end of a hard workday, Derek is nauseated the second he walks in the door. Wife Raquel is caught in the struggle and is being made to choose between her mother and her husband. In this episode, Ellie gets these in-laws to clean their dirty laundry - literally!

Jay is a stand-up shock comedian. His cool 'bad boy' lifestyle has made him an idol to his younger brother Josh, but the devil to his sister in-law Care. Care is terrified that Jay will corrupt her husband Josh. Jay thinks Care has forced his brother to settle into a dull domestic life with a baby daughter, and he hates her for it. In this episode, Ellie manages to turn these in-laws around from insults to insight.

Courtney and her husband Jay, an incredibly busy young couple, are lucky they've got a reliable caregiver for their kids - Jay's mom Ellen! Without her, their family couldn't survive. But sensitive mother in-law Ellen feels like the hired help. Courtney constantly berates her about her poor babysitting skills.
