During the opening of an exhibition on the Inquisition in a famous Cathar castle, the mutilated corpse of a young woman is discovered in a torture cage. Victor, a young man with Down syndrome, is the prime suspect.

The discovery of the body of Bertrand Thiégo, a brilliant biologist, found with his throat slit in Cayenne, leads Captain Cassandra Molba and her lieutenant Antoine Lagarde to investigate a dark story of stolen patents, intrigues against a backdrop of Amerindian legends and reports of adultery. Is this a ritualistic crime or a simple act of revenge?

The cellar master of a large Cognac house was found strangled and burned. Captain Clémentine Segonzac is in charge of the investigation.
