At the turn of the 20th century, tensions in Europe are rising. After her son Norman John dies, Margaret, a young woman trapped in a violent marriage, flees to Europe with her young daughter Nonn.

Margaret works to make ends meet and return to Nonn; an opportunity to move in with a family and become a horse trainer entangles her in a web of temptation and betrayal.
