Alex and Sarah make the perfect couple. Young and good-looking, the happy parents of their young son Paul. The future belongs to them. Until tragedy strikes. One morning, Alex's body is found at the foot of a cliff. The investigation concludes that he committed suicide. Sarah is completely devastated, she doesn't understand. What could have pushed her husband to kill himself? Then she receives a love letter from a complete stranger, Inès, addressed to Alex.

Alex's mother admits she held onto 20-year-old secrets.

Paul has disappeared. Run away? Kidnapped? Justine's body has been found: killed by a violent blow to the back of her head. What did she know? Sarah receives a call from the kidnappers: Paul has indeed been taken hostage; she'll get him back if she drops her investigation and returns to Paris. It is becoming increasingly obvious that all the recent events, including Alex's death, are linked to the fire that decimated the Paoli family.
