In the season 5 premiere, the Jones and Carter families deal with the aftermath of Carl's heart attack; meanwhile, as Fred and Nya seem to be moving forward, Brandon is stuck in the past after Raquel's shocking announcement.

Melinda, CJ, Bredna, Julius, and Donavan gather together for Carl's will reading; meanwhile, as Brandon tries to keep things together after Raquel's shocking news, Pastor Richard Brooks tries to save his marriage after it is revealed that he is Dominique's long lost father.

CJ and Ashley must deal with the guilt of their night of passion while trying to hide the truth from Dominique; meanwhile, Brandon must come face to face with the consequences of having an affair with Raquel.

Donavan confronts Raquel to tell the truth about her pregnancy; meanwhile, Dominique must deal with the truth that Ashley and CJ had sex.

As Brandon steps up to be there for Raquel during her time of need, Donavan and Layla each deal with Brandon's betrayal in their own way; meanwhile, as Melinda tries to stay strong for Julius, Fred and Nya learn a hard lesson when it comes to being distracted on the road.

Brandon and his former friends deal with a tragic death; meanwhile, Melinda and Julius visit Derrick in Tennessee which turns into a war of words.

CJ and Dominique encounter police officers who wrongly accuse them of wrong doing which has everyone reflecting o racial and social injustice.

CJ and Brandon are trying to move on with their lives, but their pasts seem to want to pull them back towards old feelings and thoughts.

As Brandon and Raquel remain in limbo when it comes to their relationship, CJ utters three words that may change everything; meanwhile, Dominque unknowingly forces Pastor Brooks to make a decision.

In the series finale, everyone prepares for the next phase in their lives as this chapter comes to an end.
