Peter convinces Fran not to stay away from her school reunion just to avoid her obnoxious braggart rival Jill, who married surgeon Frank. her plan is to take along even more desirable Elliot, who agrees at the gym to play the part. Peter tries out a 'gaydar' app. Fran ignores the gang's warnings not to hope for Elliot actually falling in love with her, so they stage an intervention. Jill ends up confessing her own depressing problem.

Peter is not pleased, as Fran expected when she invites his brother Matthew to stay with them, but panics, having told him nor their parents he's gay, nor divorced. Fran is commandeered to pretend still being happily married, but gives the game away at night. Mattew actually isn't startled and most understanding.

After Fran's father Glen Newman seems even more forgetful, she's determined to stop him driving, which he resists. As a compromise, grudging Peter is sent along as his chaperon, but finds old Glen high-spirited and a great wingman, who easily gets him into contact with Keith, the hunky bike store owner he dared not approach. Fran freaks out when she hears Glen bought a motorcycle there, and forces Peter to try stealing it at night.

Peter has convinced a TV reporter and client to feature Fran's florist shop in his show. Alas, it leaks and she's broke, so she sells his plot in the Newman burial site to pay for urgent roof repair. This causes aggravation with her parents as well as a grudge from Peter, so she tries to buy it back from the greedy neighbors.

The exes agree that a dog could help with loneliness and insecurity. Peter expects a butch guard dog, but Fran lets Judi talk her into adopting a dog that nobody else would ever choose.

Peter is delighted with a big client, an old friend of Fran's mother Dori. But when Glen hears she coaxed that slick half-Italian ex, a row ensues. To Fran's horror, her mother moves in and takes over the household, albeit rather to Peter's taste, and she does better dating then Fran. reconciling the seniors proves difficult, only the green-eyed monster may work.

At a rituals party, Fran meets fellow daredevil Adam and falls for the stud instantly. Against almost jealous Peter's advice, the pampered parlor chick accepts going on camping weekend. Wildlife and mace make it a nightmare for both, so Peter must pick them up.

Bickering with Fran, Peter is finally brought to tells the Newmans, who tell they guessed soon, how he came to realize and owe up he was gay. Ever-observant Cesar fills in the blanks. Fran learns her blaming peter is technically absurd as her pushing Judi not to settle for a waitress job instead of her show-business dream was decisive.

Peter is not amused when Fran, feeling guilty for forgetting mother's day, takes his place shopping with ma Dori. Neither outsider Peter nor fan Glen look forward to watching sports together, but soon bond as peter discovers sexy field uniforms. Fran gets her comeuppance when Dori forces her to fit an all too slim wedding dress. Dog Esther is missing.

Finding dream prince Elliot utterly out of reach, Fran is told by her loved ones to stop aiming too high. Blind dating through an Internet site with Harold proves a disaster which doesn't even reach dessert. The next step is counseling, but the therapist is none other then Harold.

When Cesar complains about marital tensions as his wife wants him to take a janitor job so he can remain near home, Peter would wisely keep out. Fran however insists to 'let Cesar go' even before she sees and hastily snaps up Roman, the younger, hotter Latino who thus misses out on the job but now gets Cesar's, a bonus also in Peter's lustfully pleased eyes.

Dori wisely ignores Fran's feminist objections to matchmaking and uses reverse psychology to make sure she dates Frankie, the handsome, charming, helpful heir and new manager of the neighborhood's best pizzeria, which he is about to reopen. Peter is delighted with Frankie's volunteered serviced as free handyman. Nobody understands why Fran can't resist flirting again with utterly unavailable Elliot, who even asked her blessing to sign up Judi for a record production.

Frankie remains the perfect gentleman lover, but after their first, gentle sex, Fran decides there's not enough passion and dumps him, to everyone's despair. Realizing she won't be happy without Elliot, Peter grudgingly goes to tell him she's free but can't handle another affair without any prospect.

The Newman parents hoped for Frankie as groom but settle for any second wedding at Fran's age, especially after they see the giant diamond engagement ring. Elliot is practically forced to bring round his parents, who are visiting from the East coast, for an impromptu feast which Peter somehow manages. Dori enjoys Douglas's flirtation, despite formal protest at an inappropriate touch. His lush wife Elisabeth however falsely accuses Fran of stealing her ring.

Peter is reluctant about Fran moving out after her impending wedding, even hesitant to sell them a home. That changes once he finds a new house-mate, virtual Fran-clone Jan. That renders the real Fran jealous enough for a cat-fight to chase her younger 'rival'. Peter's indignation soon ceases when Fran convinces Cesar's studly cousin, clueless novice gay bar man Enrico, to move in.

Fran finds there's no business like show business when she fills in for Peter as Joan Collins' assistant. But things take an unexpected twist when she gets both Joan and Peter fired before the director yells "Action!"

Growing up, Fran and Kiki were like two peas in a pod, and now Kiki's engaged, too! But Kiki's relationship isn't as steamy as Fran's, and when Fran encourages Kiki to reignite her passion, Kiki goes looking in all wrong places.

With Elliot away and a rowdy new neighbor partying next door, Fran thinks life can't get any more frustrating. But when the neighbor shows up with some surprising news about her flower shop, Fran realizes it definitely can!

When Judi's college boyfriend shows up to rekindle their romance years after he left her, Fran pushes Judi to pursue it. When he stands Judi up again, they assume he's back to his old tricks - or is there another explanation?

Fran is upset when she finds out that Peter has a secret boyfriend. Peter tells Fran that he's kept his mouth shut about Chris because she can't keep hers shut with her criticism. Fran resolves to prove him wrong, but can she?

Since she objected at Fran's first wedding, things have been tense between Fran and Peter's sister, Peggy. So when Peggy makes a surprise visit and gets too involved in planning Fran's second wedding, the lace gloves come off.

When Fran agrees to watch Cesar's son and Neil's daughter, she thinks parenting will be a piece of cake. But when the two teens start acting out, Fran wonders if she is cut out to be a nanny.

When Fran saves the life of her neighbor, Neil, she hopes he'll consider the debt between them paid off. But with Neil on her mind, he starts showing up in some other unusual places, too.

On the heels of being kissed by Neil, Fran flies to London to surprise her fiance Elliot. But she quickly realizes that Elliot has the surprise for her.
