Amid the pressures of growing friction with his partners, an overcrowded waiting room, a TV promo for his new novel, and an unhappy girlfriend, Dr. Mike tries to locate a runaway patient.

Mike makes a house call to Mrs. Palumbo. His parents come over for dinner.

Mike is trying to start his own practice and his mother is having a party for his book. There is a book review in Playboy.

Mike is at home where his landlord Mr. Kim has a heart attack. Mr. Kim insists on negotiating a deal to sell the house.

Deirdre asks Mike to make a house call on a very uncooperative patient, who turns out to be her estranged father. Meanwhile, Grant prepares for a guest spot on Mike's morning show segment.

Mike fires the incompetent nurse. Unbeknownst to him, Grant hires Mike's visiting mother as the new nurse.
