Cluff visits Hubert Pencarron, in jail, following the death of his sister but discovers his brother-in-law Reader hasn't been to see him. He believes Reader was his getaway driver. Pencarron escapes jail and Reader is found dead.

Vicky Bevin fighting off the intentions of married teacher Dave Porritt and her work mate Jake. An outbreak of drug taking, by local youths, has lead to some erratic behaviour. When Vicky is found murdered, Cluff suspects it's linked.

Estate Agent Mr. Liddler has a brick, with a message, thrown through his window and demands the Sgt. Cluff take charge of the investigation. Liddler has bullied the council into developing Wellington Road and the residents want blood.

PC Chris Ripon is the new local policeman for the village of Langermede. Called out to a robbery of tools at the home forester Saul Farrer. He returns badly beaten up, putting the blame at gypsy Tod Mellor who is alibied by Sgt. Cluff.
