The American pianist David Ingle is found dead behind his grand piano. He was in the country for the Queen Elisabeth contest. In the short time he spend here, he made a lot of enemies in record time. But it is mainly the hostess and music patron Mathilde Blève de Hainaut who intrigues Witse. She is very moody and has an outspoken love for pieces in minor.

A young pregnant woman is found dead in the woods. The suspicions fall on the husband who didn't want a second child. But also the sixteen year old Daan Luytne acts strange. According to his parents he suffers from a trauma after he discovered the body. However Witse suspects there is more than just the worry of two model parents for their teenage son.

A man is found dead in his home after he was electrified with a Taser-gun. Did he surprise a burglar? Or is there more? Witse discovers the man was addicted to poker and goes investigating in the gambling circuit. But then he gets confronted with the death of an old acquaintance.

Danny Hoste and her fifteen year old son Jonas have put their lives back on track after a tragic event in their past. Danny started a bed and breakfast and Jonas follows lessons on an art academy. Until Danny finds a dead body of an unknown man in one of the guest chambers. This sinister fact confronts them and Witse with a painful past of lies, appearances and a lot of grief.

The dead body of Jelle, a boy with Down syndrome, is pulled out of the city pond. The trace soon leads to Circus Monelly. Jelle was often there and also had some friends. But Witse comes to know that the boy was not loved by everyone. When some of the neighbors start to interfere with the investigation, the case gets out of control.

At the parking of a dancing the body of Turkish boy is found. He had a relationship with a Kurdish girl from a family with a strong religious background. They assume it's about revenge; with the murder of the boy, the family have their honor back. The Kurdish community accuse Witse of racism.

Witse hunts the probable suspect of a double murder. He is confronted by fierce opposition from a political corner. The press also takes it out on him about his alleged racist behavior. The situation in the Kurdish community is explosive and head for riots. When Witse arrest the leader of an action group, it all starts. The confrontation with the police is hard and violent.

At the station they have a reconstruction of a head of a skull which was found in a pond. They are all stunned when a butcher says it's the head of his twin brother. The man had broken all contact with his family many years ago. When Witse comes to know the butcher and his rebel teenager daughter better, he discovers a family with a secret.

While Halle is in preparation for the annual carnival procession, the local television receives an alarming call. An anonymous caller announces the public execution of Prins Carnaval. When the arrogant Kevin Demeyer refuses to step out of the procession, for Witse and his team starts a race against the clock to find the perpetrator. The search seems hopeless, because every masked man can be the murder.

Witse is approached by a woman who persistently claims something terrible will happen to her son. She begs Witse to prevent this. When Witse asks how she knows this, it appears the cards talked to her. Witse sends her politely but resolute away. Big is the surprise when the next day a body is found. It's the son of the woman who came for help.

In the Brussel-Charleroi canal a car is found with the dead body of a man inside it. He was stabbed with a knife. Witse discovers the man was involved in a deadly diving accident and suspects he was the victim of revenge. But revenge doesn't seem to be the only reason for murder.

In the woods near Halle a body is discovered of a good looking young woman. Witse questions her adoptive parents and her ex-boy friend. This has no results. According to them, the woman was already missing for a month. Witse asks help from Rik Cuppens. He's a colleague from the cell missing persons. Together they find a lead which takes them to 'Veritas'. A faith movement who strongly believe in extraterrestrial lifeforms.

Witse finds himself in one of the most mysterious cases of his career: the murderer is found murdered. Together with his team they try to find logic explanations. But it even gets more mysterious when another member of the 'veritas' disappears. While Annemie comes to her final decision, Witse has to race against the clock.
