Lily is a young girl who grew up in the loving care of her parents, Camia, who is a teacher, and Dante, who is a lawyer. Because of the death threats that Dante have received related to his job, the Cruzes are prompted to relocate to Poblacion Ardiente in order to start anew. Their lives will change, however, when they come across the powerful governor of the town, Julio Ardiente.

With the help of Lily and Camia, Diego tries to improve himself in the hopes that his family would appreciate him. Camia later meets Diego's father, Raul, who has hidden intentions toward her. Meanwhile, Dante discovers several unresolved cases which are connected to the Ardientes.

Dante finally confronts Emilia about what Raul did to Camia. His defiance, however, leads to a tragic conclusion. Soon, the Ardientes are out to get Camia and Lily. Will Lily abandon the life she built in Poblacion Ardiente in order to save herself and her mother?

Lily is able to run away from Poblacion Ardiente after some of Emilia's henchmen took pity on her. Soon, she ends up in Manila and crosses paths with Prianka Aguas. Meanwhile, Julio and Emilia are enraged with Diego after he inadvertently put their family in a precarious situation.

Prianka gives Lily a new identity to prepare her for her revenge against the Ardientes. Lily, on her part, makes an effort to improve herself as Ivy Aguas, hoping to achieve justice for her family someday. Under Prianka's tutelage, Ivy learns to defend herself from her enemies. Years later, Prianka falls to a terminal disease. On her deathbed, Prianka makes a last request to Ivy.

Upon arriving at Poblacion Ardiente, Ivy crosses paths with her childhood friend, Diego. Diego finds himself captivated by Ivy's beauty. Later, Ivy pays her father's grave a visit and vows to uncover the truth behind her parents' demise. Meanwhile, Arnaldo carries out his project as the town mayor.

Ivy finally comes face-to-face with her mortal enemies: the Ardientes. After her dinner with them, she bumps into Diego again, but denies that they had met before. Julio is impressed by Ivy and implies to Arnaldo that they may be able to use her to their advantage. Later on, Ivy makes an effort to earn Emilia's trust. Meanwhile, Raul goes to a remote place unbeknownst to his family.

In order to gain Emilia's trust, Ivy offers to help the governor's foundation. She then becomes a member of the Ardiente Women's Association, giving her the opportunity to study the true nature of her mortal enemies. Later, Emilia's life is endangered when a gunman threatens to shoot her. In the face of this, Ivy does the unthinkable. Meanwhile, Julio reminds Arnaldo to stay committed to Natalie for their family's sake.
