After a spectacular escape, Steef returns to the Zonnewijk to take his son Sem, taken by Jessica, a relative. When it does not work to get Sem, Steef wants revenge. For the loss of Rebecca and his current situation as a fugitive, in which he is separated from his son, he sees in the coma-like Eve the blame of everything. He seeks her at the hospital for the purpose of ending her life.

Eva is awakened from her coma and appears to have lost much of her memory. She does not remember Ginkelduin and nothing from Steef and Rebecca. Back in the neighborhood she learns to know her new neighbors, Steffi, Lex and their children. Only when Eva has her young neighbor girl Roos in her arms is a reminder to overcome. She remembers Lieve, her own deceased child. This makes Eva realize that her desire for a child is unprecedented to be great.

Eva tells her new neighbors that she wants to raise the children. But Lex has such doubts about Eve. He enlisted Eva and was stabbed at the Ginkelduin drama. Steffi and Lex have their own secrets. But then their son Max is missing and is Eve who finds him. With this, Eva still wins Lex's trust and becomes a regular guardian of Roos and Max. In spite of everything, Peter is still in the wake of Eve.

Eva gets more foot in the door with her new neighbors. She becomes big friends with Steffi. Carl is left free at Lilly and revoked. He has promised his prisoner Steef to watch Sem until Steef is so far as to allow his son to come over. Lex is doing his best to shape the life in the Zonnewijk, but he also suffers from the past and can hardly stay on the right track.

Lex has left some money due to his participation in the illegal race and decides to surprise his wife. They go together for a night, including a hotel stay and without children. While Lex and Steffi are gone, Eva plays Mother with Rose. This to the annoyance of her brother Max, who finds that Eva is very exaggerated. Lilly has found a scratch card and then wins a ton. The money issues are past times.

After the not-so-successful surprise weekend, Lex devotes himself to his work at the garage. During his absence garage owner Sal was molested by the crooks from the street race. Lex feels guilty and responsible. Sal will never be able to work again and asks Lex to take over the garage. Steffi confides in Eva about their past; they are in a witness protection program.

Steffi's father dies and Eva encourages her to visit her family. At her parental house her ex-boyfriend Milo also shows up, Eva informed him on her whereabouts. Steffi runs off, but is terrified Milo will track her down. Out of guilt she keeps Lex at a distance, and Eva uses this space to make advances. From her conversations with Steffi she knows exactly what he's been missing; sex.

The sexual tension between Eva and Lex grows. Eva is everything Steffi is not; a caring mother, a great cook, and a great lover. Life's looking up for Lex, especially when neighbor Lilly is prepared to invest in the garage. Peter tries to contact Eva trough fellow patient Sjors, who is allowed on a trial leave. But Sjors demands a disproportional fee for his service in a very disturbing way.

Lex falls for the charms of Eva, who sees her dream of a new family within reach. Peter decides to forget Eva and move on with his therapist, but learns Sjors hasn't returned from his trial leave. Steffi involuntarily meets Milo and her brothers, who want to get even with Lex. Due to an unfortunate concurrence of circumstances, everything cumulates in a terrible accident in the garage.

Steffi is rushed to the hospital, but dies several hours later. Her dead strengthens the determination of Milo and Steffi's brothers to take revenge on Lex. The witness protection office discover Steffi visited her family and suspend Lex from the program. When Lex tries to flee the country with his kids, Eva convinces him otherwise.
