Robin Scott goes to Acapulco seeking stolen jade and faces a dangerous man named Mr. Balzar.

Investigating one of many insurance frauds perpetrated in Guatemala, Robin Scott faces unexpected hazards. Robin runs afoul of big game hunter Mentolmo and a beautiful local businesswoman.

In Geneva, a masked band of thieves steal a valuable coin collection at gunpoint. Robin is put on the case, and finds out among other things , the stolen ducats were fakes.

A bus carrying a number of people including Emma Stroud has been blown up by a bomb planted in her luggage by her son, Gilbert. Robin, investigating the case, is convinced that Gilbert is guilty. As he uncovers vital evidence he is knocked unconscious by the boy and imprisoned and threatened with a terrible death. By use of a stratagem he throws Gilbert into the same fate the insane youth had planned for Robin.

Robin goes to Paris to try to find two highly-insured emeralds belonging to Caroline Agoura, which ostensibly went overboard with her late husband, Paul. By working with Tou Tou, a clumsy Parisian second-story man, Robin learns that Agoura is not dead, but is a vague but notorious smuggler who uses the emeralds as collateral for his deals. Agoura learns of Scott's interest and attempts to have him killed by using his young protegee, Mirelle, and her ex-lover, Tanguy, to do his dirty work. Robin feigns death, and he and Tou Tou pull a dupe that almost gets Robin killed.

A highly insured Shakespeare First Folio is stolen from London University, and Robin Scott arrives to investigate. First Robin gets a list of possible buyers of the folio, and eliminates all but one, an unscrupulous collector named Haldane. Then from the university librarian, Wilkins, Robin learns that a shady character named Begstone must be the man behind the theft. To get the suspected buyer and seller together where he can observe them, Robin tricks Begstone and Haldane into a meeting. Robin Scott is assigned to investigate the mysterious disappearance of Thelma Henderson, insured for $350,000 by her husband, Walter, an ex-confidence man. With the help of a neighbor, Robin uncovers enough evidence to convict Walter of murder--the corpse is found. Robin goes on a vacation with Phyllis on the Island of Jamaica and sees Thelma Henderson alive. Robin Scott is assigned to investigate the reported theft of $100,000 worth of jewels from Long Island socialite Kay Salisbury. Thanks to a tip from Phyllis, he gets Kay to admit the gems were not stolen--but swindled from her by a handsome playboy. This man Alex Bertani, is a member of a confidence racket gang headed by syndicate hoods Ernie Boros and Roy Eland who try to frighten Robin off by a beating and attempted murder. Robin tracks them down, rescues Phyllis who has fallen into their hands and he breaks up the gang.

The only copy of the manuscript of a new novel by America's young literary lion, Addison Hanks, is stolen by two tribesmen in Mozambique, Africa. Robin goes to find it. Hanks looks suspicious because he acts suspiciously; Molly Sullivan, Hanks' agent, warns Robin to stay away. Robin learns facts that lead him to believe that Hanks had it stolen. He is almost killed in a barroom brawl with Hanks. Then he realizes Harned is involved. He confronts, Harned, the writer and agent in a scene that almost gets him killed--but leads him to the manuscript.

Drago, manager for world famous violin virtuoso, Pietro Ascoli, arranges to have the violinist's highly insured Stradivarius stolen. Drago plans to have Ascoli pay a ransom for the return of the violin, but when Ascoli tries to use the insurance money to buy the instrument from the thieves, Robin prevents him, and in doing so is attacked and captured by the thieves.
