An employee finds a mysterious golden sphere in the 14th century papal palace of Avignon. Some take it to be the start of the fulfilling of an even more mysterious prophecy. The Esperanza family is believed to be its guardian by destiny, not in the least Estella, who is deputy curator. Her grandpa is obsessed by the prophecy but refuses to collaborate with his brother. Her former tutor and lover, archeology professor Brac, is involved with one of two secret societies also concerned about the prophecy, and notably the Judans Brothers don't hesitate to commit grim ...

The haughty commissioner stupidly fails to take the Esperanza's murder suspicion seriously until forensics prove Luis was stabbed with a Gothic weapon. Estelle ignores all warnings and continues snooping for the sinister Brothers of Judas, as does Europol. After she helps professor Daniel Brac save the papal treasure from a robber, he ends up among the new victims. She teams up with archaeological site supervisor Olivier Royal.

The perilous trip to the gypsies preparing for their patron saint's procession has made Estelle trust and kiss Olivier. After being busted by the commissioner who stupidly disrupted the whole ceremony by shooting in t he air, allowing Estelle to grab the papal jewel fitting the prophecy, she learns Olivier only got them released because he has a secret master. Julien and Nadine's seemingly doomed affair takes a turn. Mehdi forgives Gil being seduces by his ex again.

Julien is desperate after learning his lover expects his child but returns to her abusive old husband. Olivier Royal lost Estelle's confidence, but wins it back, being an undercover cop, just when the Judas Brotehrs take hold of them and order her to stab him to death. She refuses and they are released by her supposedly dead mother. Mehdi's visiting parents learn the gay truth from Giles's jealous ex Nadine.

Estelle mistrusts Olivier again, especially after her mother is arrested with her kid sister, yet teams up with him. They discover that his family's crest also fits an element of the prophecy. His family are descendants of the Italian papal palace architect, linked to a specific room which contains hidden frescoes depicting the actual prophecy. Julien's mother is just in time to prevent him committing suicide over his denied paternity, but father and uncle show no concern.

The papal stave can't be decoded by the Brothers' Hong Kong experts and is returned to Avignon. Now even the commissioner collaborates with Olivier, the end game nears. He is prepared to sacrifice his life as the frescoes demand, she refuses to risk her lover, until they find a second fresco. They end up recapturing the stave in a mill once owned by Nostradamus. Mehdi finally accepts to face his fate.
