When Gail Gartner, Commander of the Second Shift, awakens from cryosleep, she expects a smooth transition. But Robert King, the Commander of the previous shift, has other plans.

The crew of the Second Shift are having difficulty adjusting to their new lives, until Blaszkiewicz discovers cigarettes smuggled aboard by one of the frozen colonists.

When Blaszkiewicz annoys the rest of the crew by playing Donkey Kong nonstop, Gartner intervenes, and Blaszkiewicz must find a new hobby.

The fallout from the recorder fiasco continues to reverberate. Meanwhile, AMI seeks a better understanding of what makes Gartner tick.

Gartner wrestles with what to do about an unexpected personal betrayal. On Earth, a rift opens up between the show's presenters.

Aided by Freeman, Gartner launches a charm offensive against King, who tries his best to have a terrible time at his own birthday party.

Finally opening up, King shares a secret workout space with Gartner. Li struggles to solve a supply shortage problem. And Gartner hopes to take her first observations with her telescope.

When a cosmic ray hits Overture, King repairs the damage. In its wake, Gartner becomes frustrated with King's go-it-alone attitude.

King prepares a series of tests to measure the readiness of the Second Shift.

In order to move on with their lives, the crew quickly becomes blasé about the danger they faced from the ammonia leak. Gartner unwittingly takes one of King's tests.

Gartner faces off against King, as Blaszkiewicz arms her with a little-known ship regulation that could change everything.

Wake-up alarms, seeming to come from King's bunk, begin to irritate the crew of Overture. Some suspect an ulterior motive at play.

Blaszkiewicz seems to have somehow gotten his hands on psilocybin mushrooms, much to Gartner's consternation.

Gartner reflects on how Blaszkiewicz became a part of her crew, as he takes her on a rather upsetting tour of the cryonics wing.

Freeman loves Rush. Li thinks Rush is okay. The stage is set for an epic confrontation.

When Freeman and Li discover a wine cooler stashed away aboard the ship, it drives a wedge between the crew members as they cannot decide who has earned the right to drink it.

Blaskiewicz confronts Freeman over things he said while Blaszkiewicz was high. Isolated by her position as Commander, Gartner admits to AMI that she misses companionship.

Gartner and Freeman cover up a secret. Blaszkiewicz, convinced the secret is a hidden speakeasy, attempts to discover the truth.

Blaszkiewicz's search for the hidden speakeasy leads to unexpected revelations.

AMI must resolve a contradiction in her objectives. Freeman wishes he could tell someone a truth that might cost them both. And Gartner waits patiently as her plan works in the background.

Li accuses King of killing one of her strawberry plants. King assures her it is not a big deal.

When a chair is found welded to the hull of the ship, Gartner must awaken Jeff Lipschitz, the First Shift's engineer, to ask him why.

King stares down an enemy he didn't know he had. Blaszkiewicz writes a song.

Gartner and Freeman reboot AMI, and take steps to secure her systems.

Mission Control loses contact with Overture, and attempts to salvage the situation with a clip show.

Gartner tackles a life-or-death crisis, with King's help.

Protocols dictate that an additional crew member be awakened. As one crisis finally ends, another takes its place.

Captain LaBarre orders a course correction. Blaszkiewicz makes a startling discovery. And Gartner realizes something about King.
