Sally Lemm works another late night on a big upcoming litigation. She is interrupted by dogs barking and a commotion in the backyard. She goes to investigate.

Dr. Milgram is given a prestigious international award for his work but he and Evelyn disagree about its implications. Sally has returned from the yard. Not good.

Dr. Milgram may be slacking off on the job as Evelyn's "issues" get worse.

Sally and her boyfriend Paul Melchior meet in the park. Later in the day Sally and her best friend Mimi Hallen and Mimi's boyfriend David King have coffee.

Milgram, now doing book-signings for his Pullman Prize-winning book, is approached by David King who urges him to see Sally and help her with her problems. Dr. Peter Steck, Milgrams line boss, isn't happy when Milgram gets back to the office, confronting him on Dr. Robinette's concerns about Milgram's handling of the Patient Reiss case.

Sally, preparing for the Rabin case, the biggest in her career, finds fault with Susie Kramer's prep work, while puzzled Bix Strong, Sally's boss, eavesdrops. David King calls Sally and recommends the name of a psychiatrist she could consult about her sleep loss. Work pressures trigger flashbacks Sally can't comprehend, and she leaves her office to re-compose, only to fall deeper into recollection of a significant past event in her life.

Sally comes out of her flashback disoriented, as Steck challenges Milgram on his new patient, who will be making her first visit that day. Distracted by office administration, Dr. Milgram is taken by surprise as his assistant Pam users in new client Sally Lemm, who doesn't "really want to be here..." Off to a rocky start, Milgram and Sally begin to discuss her issues, but are interrupted by a surprise visit from Dr. Steck. After her first visit, Sally surprises Milgram by handing him some papers, and telling him she thinks something weird is going on.

A woman named Dana McCall bumps into Dr. Milgram and requests an appointment, as Dr. Steck and Dr. Finlayson review Milgram's recent job performance. Later, Milgram and Evelyn enjoy some much-needed time together at a restaurant near the bay. Meanwhile Sally meets with Dean Savage, Private Investigator. Savage is curious about her interest in Milgram, on whom she is having him do background research. Sally's boss Bix, impatient with her recent distractions, interrupts their meeting. He needs her to get over to see the client whose huge case they will litigate in a few...

Evelyn hosts a dinner party for close friends Neurosurgeon Dr. Liz Wellman and her husband Art Critic Warren Shipley. Coming from the office Dan is late for the party. Simmering Evelyn confronts him at the dinner when Dan explains his new-found interest in UFOs.

Milgram and Sally meet to discuss the results of her head X-rays. Dana McCall has a meeting with Pepper Redfeld that reveals what she is up to and learns she has a new assistant, Rick Lake.

Sally, Bix and lawyers prep for the big trial in Columbus. Bix warns Sally afterward that she seems out of focus.Later, UFO experiencers meet, Sally and Lisa among them. After, Lisa explores Sally's feelings about the meeting.

Susie Kramer and Joe Courson Noori leave their apartment and bump into their strange new neighbors. Susie stops at Birdie's Cafe for her morning coffee, where several Oxford Hospital doctors, Bix, Pepper, Dean Savage, PI and others mingle as they start their day.
