Dan feels intimidated when Kate's wealthy ex-flame comes to town.

Dan buys Kate a painting, but she can't bring herself to tell him how much she hates it.

Arlen loses control when he finds himself babysitting Emily's slumber party.

Dan and Kate have very different versions of a recent argument.

Kate asks Dan to throw a surprise party for Arlen, while she has her own plans.

Dan receives a lesson in priorities when his house is burglarized. Meanwhile, the folks at the office fear a company-wide downsizing.

Nicole has neither spoken to nor seen her mother and sister in many years, which explains why she is suspicious when they both suddenly appear at the station; Bam Wallets is an unlikely ally.

A reporter from a major media outlet visits the set of "Wake Up, Malibu," causing the cast and crew to bicker and compete with one another.

Dan feels that he isn't involved in the decision-making process at home or at the office; Nicole gets lessons on how to attract a man.

The Marshall home is turned upside down after a surprise visit from Dan's father who unceremoniously announces he has left Dan's mother.

The two-part episode concludes when Dan's mother arrives with an ultimatum for her husband, and the family learns that things aren't always what they seem and start to understand that while we are fortunate to fall in love, we are blessed to understand the mystery of love.
