Hung boasts an intriguing premise for a series, but so far it's burnt around the edges and raw in the center, neither as funny nor as serious as it should be. Who knows, though? It could be a grower.

While HBO struggles to find its next signature series to succeed The Sopranos, this hour will do nicely. Hung may not have the staying power of that mob drama, but it is similarly intent on ferreting out uncomfortable truths about a changing society.

I loved the first half of the extended pilot, was left cold and under-impressed after two episodes, but by the end of the fourth, was really drawn in to its dark-comic, dead-timely vision of the American economy and the American spirit.
