Lynn Holt is a lawyer who works with her husband. She goes into the office and finds that it's been stripped bare by her husband. Who's moved into a new office. And most of the staff is gone too. Only Danni Lipton remains. She sets out to rebuild her life. She takes in two lawyers, Rex Weller who's an ambulance chaser and Randi King, a spit fire who was convicted of killing her abusive husband but studied law in prison and got her conviction overturned. Lynn's first client is a a former drug addict who's trying to regain her children.

Lynn represents the parents of a child with Down syndrome who are suing the doctor for negligence.

Lynn represents a woman whose ex husband is teaching their children racism, Rex represents an animal rights activist, and Danni gets a visit from her ex boyfriend.

Randi is reminded of her past when she defends a former prison guard charged with rape, Lynn negotiates a divorce settlement for a teen actor, Danni must prepare a prenuptial agreement for her ex boyfriend.

Lynn's client wants to have his troubled daughter committed to a mental institution, Danni breaks up with Don and swears off all men.

Lynn's ethics and feelings make a custody case difficult, Rex's estranged brother appears, Danni represents an obnoxious elderly actor.

Lynn represents an immigrant wanted for a robbery in Afghanistan, children don't want their parents to attend soccer games, Andres is hurt by Lisa's dismissive treatment.
