Season 27 opens with thirteen contestants from the worlds of entertainment, sports and social media, variously performing the cha cha, foxtrot, jive, salsa and quickstep.

The previous night's opening dances are recapped, and the upcoming premiere of Dancing with the Stars: Juniors (2018) is previewed, after which five couples dance again to avoid elimination.

The twelve remaining couples dance to songs related to New York City.

The twelve remaining couples perform dances that pay tribute to Las Vegas, with one couple eliminated.

The eleven couples perform dances which celebrate the contestants' most memorable years, with one couple eliminated.

The ten couples each perform with a third dancer, most of them past finalists, with one couple eliminated.

The nine remaining celebrities put on their Mickey ears and transform into some of their favorite Disney characters to celebrate the magnificence of "Disney Night."

The nine couples perform Halloween-themed dances, with guest performers including JabbaWockeez, Allison Holker and Stephen Boss; one couple is eliminated.

The eight remaining couples dance to country hits, with various guest performers, then compete in team dances; two couples are eliminated.

The six remaining couples each perform a dedication dance, then a dance selected by the judges, after which two couples are eliminated before the finals.

The four finalists each take a second shot at a dance they selected from earlier in the year, followed by a freestyle dance, after which the season champion is named.
