Yordan Yovkov was born on Nov 09, 1880 in Bulgaria. Yordan Yovkov's big-screen debut came with Shibil directed by Zahari Zhandov in 1968. Was born and grew up in the Dobrudzha district, where he became a village teacher. Mobilized in 1912 for the Balkan war and the First World War, during which he is wounded. Moves to Sofia after the war. First stories appeared in 1917, followed by a second collection in 1918. Published his most famous book, Balkan Legends, in 1927 after a stay in Rumania. Until his death in 1937, he published more stories, a couple of novels and plays (Albena in 1930 and Boryana in 1932).
