Tim Trageser was born 1969 November 28th in Frankfurt am Main, graduated from High School in Darmstadt in 1989, and then did his civil service. He studied journalism and theatre in Munich in 1991 while interning with Tele 5-TV. From 1992 to 1994, he worked as freelance TV contributor and reporter in Berlin. He enrolled at Munich Film School at the feature-film directing-class in 1994. In 1997 he won the "EASTMAN-Förderpreis" in Hof as the best young talent director.
