To the extent that he grew up at all, Steven did it with a colorful, extended family in Rockland County, New York. His early obsession with musical theatre and classic television made him a prepubescent entertainment nerd. At 15, a close family friend who owned the Apollo theatre, gifted him with his first piano. He became self-taught and has since entertained around the world - including Lincoln Center's Avery Fisher Hall. The pursuit of a BFA in acting for Musical Theatre led him to productions in dozens of regional theatres, tours and of course in NYC (a couple of la Cage aux Folles, a few Chicago's, a bunch of South Pacific's and others plus Howard Crabtree's Whoop Dee Doo). Others might have retired after doing a drag strip tease for Mike Nichols while singing I've Got To Be Me, but not Steven. It was his long-time job in the famed piano bars of NYC where he performed his twisted creations of "The Abba Power Mix," "The Dead Pet Medley" and collections of TV theme songs that brought him to the attention of the Soloway siblings who cast him in the improv based Real Live Game Show/Real Live Brady Bunch. Steven voiced The Crimson Chin Shorts (Nickelodeon- Fairly Odd Parents), the daily horoscope reports for AT&T, and many commercials. He appeared in the BBC film Stonewall and his image was used on much of the advertising for the film. And then there was a five-year-run on Tom Fontana's OZ for HBO where he worked with many of his idols from Broadway.Ultimately, it was his encyclopedic knowledge of classic television that led him to Nick@Nite and TV Land where he rose to senior producer of interactive, short form content. While there he was honored to lose 2 Emmy Awards, and to win the Viacom Vision Award for outstanding company contributions. As a writer, Steven wrote the LA Emmys for 5 consecutive years. He was the Creator/Executive Producer of the pilot/web series "Life Interrupted" (released 2/14/16) that stars Mason Reese, Alison Arngrim, Dawn Wells, Erin Murphy, Robbie Rist and Michael Learned. The show garnered nearly 20 Festival Awards including Best Web Series at The San Pedro International Film Festival, and multiple awards for the Principal Actors, Direction, Editing. The original theme song he co-wrote with Robbie Rist also won several awards. At the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences he became a six-year member of the Diversity Committee, a standing committee of television professionals dedicated to a more inclusive landscape in television/new media both in front of and behind the cameras. He is a (now remote) volunteer for inner city schools in NYC where he provides professional input to music and drama programs. And he's involved with several not-for-profit charities including Making it Happen, Inc. (serving the homeless and underemployed) and A Minor Consideration, founded by his friend Paul Petersen. His need to write and create has been a driving force since birth and is what propels him to this day.
