Sara was born in Porto in 1977. She started her artistic training in classical ballet with Pirmin Trecu (1986-92). She graduated in acting at Academia Contemporânea do Espetáculo in Porto (1997), and at The Lee Strasberg Theater & Film Institute in New York (2006). Most recently, as a Master of Arts in Applied Theatre by Royal Central School of Speech and Drama (2017). She studied with João Grosso, Antonio Capelo, João Paulo Costa, Sandra Mladenovic, Jerzy Klesyk, Annie Tyson, Julia Wilson-Dickson, Kuniaky Ida, Pennie Dupont, Ted Zurkowski, Michael Ryan, Robert Castle, and Irma Saundrey. Her language is greatly influenced by physical theatre and embodied poetics. Her performances ranged from classical to contemporaneous theatre and more experimental dramaturgy, exploring clown, dance-theatre, performance, musical theatre and street theatre. She's performed in Portugal's main theatre venues, such as the National Theatre S. João, Teatro Rivoli, Teatro Camões, Teatro Carlos Alberto, and Tivoli, and toured internationally with The Glazier by Matthew Dunster. Since 1996, she worked for her theatre company MetaMortemFase (1995-2002), and freelanced with the Teatro Nacional S. João, Pé de Vento, and Panmixia, working with the prestigious Portuguese and international directors José Wallenstein, Rogério de Carvalho and Peta Lily. In 1996 and 1998, she was selected to participate in the pioneer PIETA - Project in European Theatre Arts, and, in 2008 and 2010, in the International Theatre Workshops at the Venice Biennale, working with Ricardo Bartís (Sportivo Teatral) and Massimo Munaro (Teatro Del Lemming). On set, she was directed by Jean Claude Biette, Edgar Pêra and Carlos Ruiz Carmona, working with Nuno Melo, Mathieu Amalric, and Jeanne Balibar. Parallel to her acting career, she passionately works as an applied drama practitioner internationally. with her project insideOut (www.insideout-applieddrama.com), she investigates and develops ground-breaking practice exploring the transformative potential of drama in assisting the development of emotional intelligence in young children
