Shin Sang-ok

Shin Sang-ok was born on Oct 11, 1926 in Korea. Shin Sang-ok's big-screen debut came with Jiokhwa directed by Shin Sang-ok in 1958. Shin Sang-ok is known for Balgan mahura directed by Shin Sang-ok, Eun-hie Choi stars as Ji-seon and Yeong-gyun Shin as Major Na Gwan-jung. Shin Sang-ok has got 6 awards and 3 nominations so far. The most recent award Shin Sang-ok achieved is Pusan International Film Festival. The upcoming new movie Shin Sang-ok plays is The Gardener which will be released on Jan 24, 2000.

Shin alleged that he and his wife were kidnapped from their native South Korea in the late 1970s and held for several years in North Korea to make movies for Kim Jong Il, son of the N. Korean leader. Shin Sang-ok sought asylum in the United States in 1986 shortly before the film "Pulgasary" was finished. The couple were granted refuge in the United States.
