Rómulo Gallegos was born on Aug 02, 1884 in Venezuela. Rómulo Gallegos's big-screen debut came with Doña Bárbara directed by Fernando de Fuentes in 1943. Rómulo Gallegos is known for Cantaclaro directed by Julio Bracho, Esther Fernández stars as Rosangela and Antonio Badú as Florentino Coronado Cantaclaro. The upcoming new movie Rómulo Gallegos plays is Doña Bárbara which will be released on May 14, 1998.

Gallegos is not only famous as a writer of novels (the most famous of which is _Doña Barbara (1923)_, short stories and political articles. In 1947, after having been Minister of Education, he was elected President of Venezuela. In 1948, however, he was overthrown by a military coup, upon which he went into exile. He returned to Caracas in 1958, where he died in 1969. Among his most famous novels are, apart from Doña Barbara : _La Trepadora_ (1924), _Los Aventureros_ (1913) and _Los Inmigrantes_ (1913). He also wrote a play : _El Milagro del año_ (1911).
