Ray co-created the NAACP nom'd 'After the Uprising', a true-crime limited podcast series from iHeart Media investigating mysterious deaths of Black Lives Matter activists. He directed on the Emmy-nominated 3rd season of 'VICE on HBO'. His collaborations with Dave Cassidy and two-time Oscar-winner Barbara Kopple include seven feature film documentaries: the NAACP nom'd Dap-Kings docu-musical 'Miss Sharon Jones!'; Discovery Channel climate change anthology film 'Killing the Colorado'; Emmy-nom'd Netflix Original about Johnny Cash and President Nixon, 'Tricky Dick & the Man in Black'; poignant true-crime / self-help mashup for Investigation Discovery, 'A Murder in Mansfield'; and an Emmy-nom'd look into a U.S. special ops hostage rescue mission gone wrong for HISTORY, 'Desert One'. Their latest together, 'Gumbo Coalition', documented civil rights leaders during the "Trump era," a DOCNYC & IDFA premiere in fall 2022. Ray gained a fervent following around his work over two decades into the dark side of the "war on terror," culminating in the 2018 book The Watchdogs Didn't Bark from Skyhorse Publishing. He has written for Salon, Truthdig, Truthout and Fortune and contributed to investigations by The Daily Beast, Gawker, The Intercept and Newsweek.
