Randall Barnes was born in southern California but has spent half of his life in Europe. Following a MA in Applied Linguistics at the University of York (UK), he went on to complete a Post Graduate Diploma in Sound Design at Bournemouth University (UK) in 2002. This Diploma course deepened his passion for location sound and post sound recording, editing and mixing. To further add to this passion, he spent the next four years writing a PhD thesis on film sound history, theory and practice. During this time he worked on various student projects and was asked to consult on the sound content for a drama titled "One" dir. Brown - 2006). Since graduating in March 2006, he's designed the sound for the psychological thriller, "Mobius" (dir. Montalvan - Dec 2006), he has recorded, edited and pre-mixed the sound for the horror film, "The Uninvited" (dir. Badway), he has also been the sole sound designer for the full-length documentary called "Saravia" (dir. Montalvan), the short film "2019: A Future Imagined" (dir. Montalvan) and the full-length thriller, "Hole" (dir. Montalvan). He has just completed two other short films: "Enigmata" dir. Eaton) and "Re-membered" (dir. Badway) and is currently working on another short: "TJ's Lament" (dir. Meglic). He has published two papers on line on the sound content of the Coen brothers' "Barton Fink" and "Raising Arizona."
