Ramsey Nasr (Rotterdam, 1974) is an actor, a poet, a playwright, a connoisseur of classical music and an art collector. He's a polar explorer too. After he was awarded the Louis d'Or in 2019 - the most prestigious Dutch actor's prize, his second in 4 years - a critic wrote: 'Ramsey Nasr is an overwhelming multi-talent'. Dutch critics don't say things lightly.People who've seen him perform as Jude in 'A Little Life' - the exclusive theatrical interpretation of Hanya Yanagihara's novel - will agree. This was his most powerful, yet vulnerable part on stage. He was at his best, working with the best stage director: Ivo van Hove of the International Theater Amsterdam (ITA) and of Lazarus-fame, David Bowie's final project. Van Hove's adaptation of Ayn Rand's novel 'The Fountainhead' won Ramsey his first Louis d'Or in 2015.Another highlight in 2019 was his role as Thomas Mann in 'Death in Venice', with ITA and a symphonic orchestra. Ramsey adapted Mann's novel himself, working as a recluse in Venice for several months. After 'A Little Life', 'Death in Venice' and the occasional international performance of several plays with ITA, Ramsey prepared for his role as Ischa Meyer in the TV-series 'IM'. Meyer was a famed Dutch journalist. After his death his partner, writer Connie Palmen, wrote a novel about their relationship. Ramsey gained a lot off weight, dyed his hair and transformed into Ischa. In 1995, when Ramsey graduated from the Studio Herman Teirlinck in Antwerp with a monologue he wrote himself, his career as an actor started alongside his career as a writer and poet. He divides his time between those two passions. In 2011 he traveled to Myanmar to interview Nobel Prize winner Aung San Suu Kyi. In 2012 he released a 7-cd box with Dutch poetry, his selection of 350 poems from the Middle Ages to the present. He was elected Netherlands' National Poet in 2009 for four years, but continued to perform in feature films like 'Süskind' (2012) and 'Goltzius & The Pelican Company' (2013) by British director Peter Greenaway. He starred in many TV-series, from 'The Enclave' (2002) and 'Betrayal' opposite Sylvia Hoeks (2011 - 2014) to IM (2019). In his spare time he collects all kinds of artifacts and pictures for his scientific Wunderkammer and he travels to polar regions with scientific expeditions. In the meantime preparing for new parts, stage or film.
