Paul Ruven was born on Aug 19, 1958 in Netherlands. Paul Ruven's big-screen debut came with How to Survive a Broken Heart directed by Paul Ruven in 1991.

He attended Filmschool Amsterdam (screenwriting & directing), Theatre School For Directors Amsterdam, and UCLA Mastercourse directing Motion Pictures Division. He co-wrote Alaska (1989) with Mike van Diem, that won Oscar for best foreign student film. He produced Robin de Puy: Ik ben het allemaal zelf (2016) that was nominated for an International Emmy. He wrote, directed and/or produced art films as well as commercial movies with actors like Patrick Dempsey, Chris Noth, Jason London, Fiona Dourif.
