Nick Seymour

composer, art department, actor

Nick Seymour was born on Dec 09, 1958 in Australia. Nick Seymour's big-screen debut came with The Silent City directed by Ruairi Robinson in 2006.

Nicholas More Seymour is most notably known as one third of antipodean rock band 'Crowded House'. Nick, the youngest of four, was born in Benalla, Australia to secondary school humanities teachers Frank and Paula Seymour. The Seymour family moved house regularly throughout rural Victoria as his parents sought seniority-promotion in the State Education system. Nick's mother Paula, an avid Irish traditional music fan taught her children 'harmony and round' so that 'The Seymour Family Singers' bonded and readied the family to engage in regular 'Sing Songs' at weddings, parties anything. His siblings, Hilary, Helen and Mark all learned Piano and guitar. Mark later formed and fronted the rock band 'Hunters and Collectors'. During the late seventies Nick, who had decided early that he wanted an art school training, attended Caulfield Institute and then The Victorian College of the Arts in Melbourne majoring in Printmaking. He financed his study with art department travails in Film and TV productions that included 'The Sullivans' and 'Carsons' Law'. During the early 80's Nick, strapping on a bass guitar, formed, rehearsed and performed with a number of fledgling rock bands on the Melbourne scene. It wasn't until Neil Finn and Paul Hester of Split Enz asked him to join their new outfit , secure a recording deal in Hollywood and record a very successful 1st album titled 'Crowded House' that Nick found his stride. Apart from Bass duties he also embraced all aspects of the bands visual branding including costume, stage sets and most notably album cover art. Having formed in Melbourne in 1985, CH went on to world wide acclaim until 1996's Sydney Opera House farewell spectacular after Neil, their singer, had moved to Auckland, New Zealand. Nick feeling the liberation of early retirement also decided to re-camp to Dublin, Ireland where he set up 'Exchequer studios' with collaborator Brian Crosby. Although more of a writing room than a commercial studio, 'Exchequer' has nurtured many local heroes most notably 'Hozier'. Nick has produced solo artists, bands and most recently award winning movie soundtracks. He lives, surfs and bar-b-ques with his young family Lola, Frank and partner Nicola on the Atlantic coast near Easkey county Sligo.
