Neil was born and raised in Los Angeles. He and his older brother, Brian, spent much of their childhood on film sets in Hollywood and on location, mostly in New York, NY. Their parents, Ronald and Susan Schwary are in the entertainment business; their father, an Academy Award-Winning producer and director and their mother, an Emmy Award-Winning hair stylist.At a very young age, Brian and Neil both dabbled in the entertainment industry as child actors doing commercials and small parts in film and TV. Their parents, afraid of how a Hollywood career could affect their childhood, pulled them out of acting. Neil focused on his academics, sports, and doing theatre and musicals in school while also making short films in his spare time.Neil graduated from the University of California at Los Angeles majoring in Political Science. While at UCLA, he spent his summers working as a production assistant in film and TV and also at Paramount Pictures in the marketing/advertising department. After college, Neil traveled Europe and studied for a year at the Universidad de Salamanca in Spain. Neil's passion for acting crept back after his return from Europe and he moved to New York City, following his older brother's footsteps. He graduated from the William Esper Studio and studies continuously with Maggie Flanigan. He also studied briefly with the Upright Citizens Brigade. Neil has appeared in several theatre productions, multiple television shows and independent films. He splits time between NY and LA, acting, writing, and producing.
