Mercedes Olea was born on May 30, 1966 in Mexico. Mercedes Olea's big-screen debut came with Cómodas mensualidades directed by Julián Pastor in 1992.

Mercedes Olea studied acting in the UNAM (Mexico City public university) and also graduated from Bennington College in Vermont. She attended acting courses in England for a year and also studied in Circle-in-the-Square Theater School in New york City. She began her professional career in 1980 and has mainly participated in the Mexican Theater obtaining various awards. She has successfully produced 2 plays "Skirmishes" by Catherine Hayes and "The Road to Mecca" by Athol Fugard. Throughout her career she has participated in various mexican soap-operas, and tv series and also teaches acting. She speaks four languages: her native spanish, english, french and russian. She is the daughter of prominent Mexican actress Mercedes Pascual.
