Matias Ponce is a Mexican-American actor. Borned and raised in The Old Southend of Toledo, OH. A 2007 graduate of Libbey High School. He made the move from the Midwest to the West Coast in September of 2009, since then he has played in various T.V. roles, films and plays but as a thespian, theatre is the extreme sport of acting. Most recently he will be appearing in Cartel Pictures "Echo Base" which will be streaming on Tubi. In 2017 Matias Ponce had the honor of portraying Henry Reyna from Luis Valdez's "Zoot Suit" with Oscar nominated actor Demián Bichir, which was revived for it's 40th Anniversary at The Mark Taper Forum in Downtown Los Angeles and was directed by Luis Valdez. It was the second Latino written and produced play on Broadway, debuting in 1979 at the Winter Garden Theater. Based on the Sleepy Lagoon Trial and The Zoot Suit Riots of 1943 against young Chicanos and those that called themselves Pachucos. Matias Ponce is an only child, his father Domingo Ponce is originally from Querétaro, México and his mother Anna Maria Ponce is a first generation born Mexican-American from Toledo, Ohio. He cites his mother Anna for getting him into acting, starting out in local commercials for Buckeye Cablesystem which was the cable company his mother worked for. He also contributes his beginnings to The Toledo Repertoire Theatre and Starbound which is a Talent and Model agency based in Toledo, OH. In 2011 he made is first LA stage debut in Short Eyes by Miguel Piñero, it was the first Latino written and produced play on Broadway, debuting in 1974 at the Vivian Beaumont Theater. This re-staging was a co-production with Urban Theatre Movement and the Latino Theater Company and was presented at The Los Angeles Theatre Center in Downtown Los Angeles and was directed by Julian Acosta. He has also continues to work with theatre director José Luis Valenzuela and the members of the Latino Theater Company. It's not about how good you are doing, it's about how long are you doing good.
