Márcio D'Astrain was born on March 9th, 1993 in Le Sentier, Switzerland and he's one of the most promising directors and screenwriters of Portugal. At the age of 5, he moved to Pombal, Portugal. He studied at the semi-private school Instituto D. João V and it was there that he started writing and acting in plays. One of them was O Rei Lobisomem (2011) which earned him the prize for Best Play in the XV Theater Festival of Pombal and honor during his remaining school years. In 2012 he enrolled for the Artistic Studies course at Universidade de Lisboa, it was there that he joined the "GTL - Grupo de Teatro de Letras" as a writer/producer, later on, he started in a film production company Marginal Filmes with director José Carlos de Oliveira. In 2016 Márcio was part of the project Tudo Vai Melhorar (2016), a LGBT-themed project which was positively received by the community. In 2018, Márcio started the web series D'Astrain Au Cinéma (2018), featuring work from in which he discusses the upcoming movies in Portugal and interviews passersby about the movies. In 2020, the film Floripes (2020) is released - Márcio's first documentary film. Floripes (2020) received good reviews and was also a semifinalist at the New Cinema - Lisbon Monthly Film Festival. In the same year he also made a small contribution to the production of the film In Search of Darkness: Part II (2020). Also his short film Le Son de La Fin (2021) was in more than ten international film festivals, Marcio is currently in the post-production of his new short film Saudade: Le Lisbonne Que Je N'ai Jamais Connu (2022). Márcio finds his inspiration in Cher, Tim Burton, Johnny Depp, Cassandra Peterson, Rob Marshall and Meryl Streep.
