TV Writer (X-Files Event Series 2 [2018]) originally from Vancouver, BC but now considers herself a writing gypsy traveling to where the creative world takes her. In 2016 Karen was selected as 1 of 7 writers across Canada to attend the Canadian Film Centre's Bell Media Prime Time TV Writer's Program with Executive Producer mentor Karen Walton (Orphan Black), original series mentors Lesley Grant (X-Company/Temple Street) and Sean Reycraft (Killjoys).Also a director Karen's most recent short film, Grace, appeared as a special feature on the Blu-Ray DVD release of X-Files Event Series 1 (2017). Nielsen has worked as a script coordinator on various series, including Fox's series return of the X-Files, the BBC series, Intruders, and the Direct TV series, Rogue. Nielsen is in development with her original drama series Parker's Fall and the supernatural series Kin: The Story of Hansel & Gretel.Karen has also directed the award winning short family drama 'A Pickle', starring William B. Davis (X-Files), Brendan Myer (The OA) and Cainan Weibe, who was awarded the Hollywood Young Artist Award for his performance in the film. Karen is no stranger to thrillers with her short film 'The Janitor's Office' winning Best Short Film Horror/Sci-Fi at the Eugene International Film Festival.Taking on the world of dance Karen wrote, directed and produced the award winning dance film 'Perceptions' and her first short film (actually shot on film) the powerful and moving thriller 'Infinite Moments'.Having a lighter side Karen has also produced the award winning short film 'Hula' about the history of the hula-hoop and the children's animation 'A Very Fair Christmas' which aired on YTV in Canada.
