Josefina Lopez was born on March 19, 1969 in San Luis Potosi, Mexico. At age 5 she moved with her family to Los Angeles, California. She graduated from the Los Angeles County High School for the Arts and has a BA in film and screenwriting from Columbia College Chicago, and an MFA in screenwriting from the School of Theater, Film and Television (UCLA). She has had over 100 productions of her plays. She is the founder and Artistic Director of Casa 0101 Theater. Her plays include: "Simply Maria, or the American Dream", "Real Wowen Have Curves", "Boyle Heights", "Hungry Woman in Paris", "Trio Los Machos" among others. Her films include: Baby Boom (2005), Lotería (1996), Real Women Have Curves (2002),Yesterday's News (2014) among others.
