He was a charter member of ASCAP in 1914, and was a staff writer for the Shuberts, and wrote the Broadway stage scores for "The Whirl of Society"; "Honeymoon Express"; and "The Peasant Girl". He wrote the librettos for "Vera Violetta"; "The Passing Show" (12 editions); "The Whirl of the World"; "Dancing Around"; "Maid in America"; "A World of Pleasure"; "Robinson Crusoe, Jr."; "The Show of Wonders"; "Doing Our Bit"; "Sinbad"; "Monte Cristo, Jr."; "The Last Waltz"; "Bombo"; "The Rose of Stamboul"; "The Dancing Girl"; "Topics of 1923"; "Innocent Eyes"; "Pleasure Bound"; "The Midnight Rounders"; "Big Boy"; "Artists and Models"; "Gay Paree"; "A Night in Paris"; "A Night in Spain"; "Ziegfeld Follies of 1927"; "Greenwich Village Follies of 1928"; and "Everybody's Welcome". His chief musical collaborators included Al Jolson, Harry Carroll, Louis Hirsch, Otto Motzan, and Sigmund Romberg. His other popular-song compositions include "My Yellow Jacket Girl"; "Omar Khayyam"; "My Lady of the Telephone"; "Sister Susie Started Syncopation"; "The Ragtime of Pan"; "Lotus Flower"; "Galli Curci Rag"; "Broadway Butterfly"; "Jazza Da-Doo", and "Doing My Bit".
