Alta Gwendolyn Gaze was born in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. Her father was a film actor and singer in comedies in his homeland of Australia as well as London and New York. Gwen achieved a degree from The Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts in London, then immigrated to America and received a drama degree from Pasadena College. She began acting in plays in New York, landing a starring role in "The Women" before moving on to Hollywood for a career in motion pictures. Her first role was as Pamela Armitage in "I Cover the War" in 1937, playing the leading lady to John Wayne. In 1938 she played opposite William Boyd in two Hopalong Cassidy films, the first of which, "Partners of the Plains" offered one of her strongest roles as a domineering English girl named Lorna Drake. She also performs the song, "Moonlight on the Sunset Trail" within the film. Gwen Gaze appeared in a total of 13 films between the years 1937 and 1943. She was married in Vancouver, Canada, where Gwen had a radio show. She had two children, Carol and Peter. Gwen died peacefully in Seattle, Washington on August 29th, 2010.
