Ed Jansen was born in Manhattan, New York on 11 November 1976. He primarily grew up in Jersey City, New Jersey. He graduated from Dickinson High School and then attended Stevens Institute of Technology in Hoboken to be a civil engineer, but dropped out after three years upon realizing that making films was what he really wanted to do. He taught himself how to make videos and eventually went on producing many short films, sketches, and music videos. In 2007, he moved to Amsterdam, Netherlands working as a video producer and director.
