David McGillivray

David McGillivray

writer, actor, producer

David McGillivray was born on Sep 07, 1947 in UK. David McGillivray's big-screen debut came with Carry on Girls directed by Gerald Thomas in 1973, strarring Dapper man at beauty contest (uncredited).

This prolific hack writer, who has contributed to radio, TV, films and theatre, began as a film journalist and bit player. His stints as a contributor to the magazine "Films and Filming" and assistant editor of the British Film Institute's "Monthly Film Bulletin" resulted first in him writing screenplays for director Pete Walker and later writing the book "Doing Rude Things". The films were not commercially successful and McGillivray's scripts attracted mostly hostile reviews. He moved to theatre, co-writing lowbrow farces for his own company. During this period he met Julian Clary, who was starting out as a stand-up comic. McGillivray has continued to this day to write for Clary, but claims that his are the jokes that don't get laughs. From 2004 he wrote and produced a series of short horror films, which were not particularly successful either on their own or when joined together as a portmanteau "Worst Fears". In 2016 he produced the short film "Trouser Bar", which received mostly adverse publicity. A new edition of "Doing Rude Things" appeared in 2017 to lukewarm response. His autobiography, "Little Did You Know", was published 2019. It sank almost without trace. In September 2020 McGillivray presented a chat show, "Live at 5", for the video sharing platform Likee. Before the end of the month the programme was removed because McGillivray had "transgressed community standards." Re-named "Little Did You Know", the show transferred to YouTube in November of the same year but was largely ignored.
